What Is Divine Timing & How To Surrender To It?
I’m going to be honest, Divine Timing sucks. You want what you want, and you want it now!
I totally get it. Divine Timing is made out to be this beautiful fluffy concept when in reality it can be very difficult to accept and understand.
In this article, I put a different spin on what is divine timing and how to use it to your advantage instead of letting it suck the life out of you.
Divine Timing can be a wonderful thing if you know how to navigate it and work with it.
What is Divine Timing?
Diving timing is allowing events to unfold in your life in the best way possible to bring you what you want without you forcing the outcome. It is the belief that everything that happens to you does so in the perfect time for you. Everything that is happening to you is actually happening for you in the exact right moment that you are ready for it and not a moment sooner.
Divine timing doesn’t always make sense to your rational mind. However, at a soul level, it makes perfect sense. It is unfolding for you when your energy matches its energy.
Does this mean that you sit around and wait for divine timing to do its thing? No, absolutely not! You are co-creating with universal energy. So, if you sit and do nothing, then you won’t be ready for divine timing to bring you your next experience.
However, if you do your inner work and focus on self-development, self-love, and manifesting, then divine timing will be ready sooner to line up the next set of events that you are ready to experience.
You are in control of divine timing. It is completely up to you. There is no external force withholding anything from you. You are in charge of how divine timing shows up in your life.
How to Trust in Divine Timing
It’s important to trust that divine timing is working with you and not against you. It is bringing you what you are a match to at the moment you are ready for it.
So, if something is not working out in your life understand that forcing it to happen won’t work. It simply means that you still need to experience something or shift something within you in order for you to have a different experience. Trust that you are receiving exactly what you need at the exact right moment for you.

What to Do While You Wait for Divine Timing
Never wait for divine timing! It’s up to you to do something different if you want to have a different experience. I mentioned above that divine timing is bringing you what you are ready for so if you don’t have it yet, it means that you aren’t ready for it…yet.
If you aren’t ready for it yet, then you have some inner work to do. Perhaps you need to dive into some shadow work and look at the aspects that are painful but that want to be cleared.
Or maybe you need to look at your self-worth and do things to feel more worthy. You are already completely worthy, but you may not feel that way. What can you do to feel ready and worthy of receiving this thing? Meditation is a great place to start shifting your perception of yourself.
There are always things to do, and you should never wait around for life to happen to you. You have the ability to change your life from the inside out. Divine timing is waiting for YOU, you are not waiting for it.
Divine Timing Knows When You Are Ready
You can only attract what you are a match to so if you attract something, you are ready for it. You may think that you are ready for something, but divine timing knows that you need to learn something first before you are ready.
You may need to learn this thing first so that when your manifestation shows up, you are successful with it. If it shows up before you are ready, you may sabotage it because you didn’t learn what you needed to first.
For example, let’s say you want to have a baby, but you are a very impatient person. In your job, your co-worker is helping you to develop patience as part of a soul contract that you two have together. You think you are ready for your baby to arrive but if it arrived right now then you’d be so impatient with it and you’d grow up having a strained relationship with your child.
However, once you learn patience from your co-worker, it helps you to develop that within your personality and carries over to your relationship with your child. Now, as your child grows up you have a very loving and caring relationship because of how you treated them.
Do you see how this works? It’s up to you when you are ready. You can choose to be ready very slowly or very quickly. Divine timing is ready and waiting for YOU to be ready, not the other way around.
Divine Timing Includes Other People as Well
When you manifest anything, it often involves other people and certain circumstances. However, it’s important to note that the other people don’t matter. You are creating your life and if one of your soul contracts isn’t ready to enter, then another one will. There will always be another one.
While you are focused on bringing your manifestations to you, things are getting shuffled up behind the scenes. The players who will be involved and the experiences you will have are all getting lined up for you as you begin to create what you want.
These things need to be ready for you and a match for you. So, things need to get lined up before you can experience what you are manifesting. This is because you live in a physical reality and manifestations are not instant in 3D because of the density.
For example, let’s say you have a soul contract to experience a certain relationship with someone. As you focus and bring your awareness to what you want to manifest, it starts to get lined up.
The person who you are attracting needs to be a match to you to reach you. If they aren’t on the same vibration, then you won’t meet. So, divine timing says that you BOTH have to be ready to meet and in the right vibration before it happens.
But what if you are ready and in the right energy but the other person isn’t? Then someone else comes along that is ready for you. It doesn’t need to be that person. Divine timing is still at play because that other person as well as yourself both need to be in the right energy for you to meet. Your energy needs to be right for anything in your life to happen regardless of the other person.
Your higher self is also manifesting for you as well. So, while you at a conscious level may think you are ready and manifesting what you want, your higher self may think differently.
Your higher self may want you to have the experience of what it feels like to be alone first and then once you’ve experienced it, you meet someone. So, the meeting takes place in divine timing after your higher self is ready to manifest it.
Divine Timing Vs. Making Something Happen
Making something happen is trying to force something against its will when it’s not ready and you aren’t ready. Your ego may say, “I’m ready for this thing.” But your higher self says, “there’s still more work to do first.”
Forcing anything to happen in your life will never work. You know how if you chase something it runs from you? That’s similar to forcing something. You’ll never catch it because it feels suffocated.
However, working on aspects of yourself and then allowing divine timing to bring you people and experiences has a completely different energy to it. It feels light and free. Things like to feel that way and will stick around much longer than if they feel suffocated.
How do you know if you are forcing something or if you are allowing divine timing to bring it to you? You know by the way it feels. If it feels hard and resistant, then you are forcing it. If it feels light and free, then you are working with divine timing.
Here are a few examples of your ego trying to force how things unfold in your life:
- Only one person will make me happy and I will not be with anyone else.
- I need a certain job to be happy and nothing else is good enough.
- There’s one way to get to where I want to be and I will not look at other paths.
- I make decisions and base my future off my past experiences and what has happened.
Here are a few examples of working with and allowing divine timing:
- There are many different people who are a match for me and who have the qualities I seek. I am open to whoever matches my vibration.
- I know how I want to feel at my job and there are many different careers I can choose from.
- I can see various paths that will lead me to the outcome I want.
- I allow my intuition to show me different ways that I haven’t even thought of yet.
Examples of Divine Timing Working in Your Life
#1 Example of Divine Timing
Going into your local coffee shop and running into someone you met at your gym the other day. As you are entering, he is leaving. This is after you were delayed by 2 minutes from the phone call you received this morning.
If you had been a few seconds sooner or later, you wouldn’t have bumped into each other. Now that you have, you start up a conversation that leads to coffee and eventually dating each other.
Your paths crossed at the exact right moment as if it was divinely guided.
#2 Example of Divine Timing
You are on your way to work but misplaced your keys. This causes you to take an extra minute to find them.
As you are driving you hit a roadblock. Apparently, there was a 5-car accident that happened one minute before you got there. If you would have been on time, you would have likely been a part of the accident.
6 Tips for Working with Divine Timing
1. Detach And Surrender
Divine timing is all about detaching from how and when something will happen. You are surrendering the timing to the universe.
You don’t always know how or when something will happen. Like my example above, sometimes getting delayed is for a purpose. It is because the universe knows when something will work out best for you and can see the full picture. You don’t know why seemingly little or frustrating things may be happening, but they may be for your benefit without you realizing it.
A 30-second delay may change your whole life. But if you are set on having something at a certain time and in a certain way, then the universe can’t work its magic. So, hold your vision while surrendering and detaching to how and when it will happen.
2. Wait for Inspiration
Inspiration is your higher self communicating with you and letting you know that something is ready.
When you feel inspired, act on it! Don’t wait because it is letting you know that now is the time to act. If you wait you may miss the opportunity. There will be other opportunities, but you may miss this one.
3. Be Open to Receiving
Divine timing requires that you are open to receiving what you want in a way that may look different than you’ve envisioned. You may not know the exact way that your manifestation will come to you. If you are set on only one way then it will block all the other options that are available.
4. Become More Present & Live in the Present Moment
You lose your power when you are focused only on the future and not living in the present moment. If you are constantly looking for when or how something will happen, then it will be hard for divine timing to get a message to you.
You won’t notice it because the message is in the present and you are living in the future. You are in the future and missing out on all the things in the present that will get you to that future moment that you want.
Don’t discount your present. It is just as valuable as your future. Every moment is valuable, and your future isn’t better than your present.
When you are present, divine timing can work with you and through you to deliver you what you want in the exact right moment for you.
5. Be Happy Now (Not When You Get the Thing You Want)
Here’s some law of attraction 101 – you won’t be happy when you get what you want. You are happy THEN you get what you want.
You’ve likely been living backwards and thinking that you will only be happy when you get what you want. It is normal to think this way because most of us have been taught this. However, it’s not true.
You need to find the feeling of what you want first and then divine timing can deliver it to you. Being happy in your present attracts more things to be happy about in your future.
If you are saving your happiness for a future event then via the law of attraction you will keep attracting “being happy in the future”. Which means that it will always be just out of reach.
6. Trust in the Universe, Your Intuition & Your Higher Self to Guide You
When understanding what is divine timing, know that it is many things. It is the signs you get from the universe that are guiding you. It is your intuition saying go this way and it is your higher self saying you aren’t quite ready yet for this thing, but you are ready for this other thing right now.
Divine timing knows what you are ready for and what you can handle. It also knows what you aren’t ready for and may potentially mess up. It won’t deliver what you aren’t ready for because it wants you to have the best experience you can.
Trust that it is working with you and guiding you along the way. Follow your intuitive hunches as they might just happen to lead you to the exact right place at the exact right time. Sometimes you will know this right away and other times you will have to look back to see how divine timing unfolded.
Final Words on Divine Timing
Divine timing is real, yet it has nothing to do with an external force waiting to deliver to you what you want. It has everything to do with you and what energy you are emulating.
Waiting for divine timing without doing any inner work will leave you waiting for a long time. Divine timing won’t line up with you because YOU haven’t changed. But, if you begin to do the work, then divine timing can work with you and bring you what you are matched to.
When you feel inspired, it is divine timing saying, “I’m ready for you to take action now. Follow the inspiration and it will lead you to what you want.”
Divine timing is simply the time when you are ready to receive. It doesn’t happen a moment before you are ready. Divine timing works with you and on your behalf behind the scenes to line up the people and events that match your vibration. But everything comes from you. It is simply co-creating what you are a match to.
