8 Of The Most Important Spiritual Journey Stages
There are spiritual journey stages that you will go through when you incarnate on earth. These stages are meant to help you and expand your consciousness beyond what it has been up until now.
Everyone is unique and will go through their spiritual journey at their own pace. There is no right or wrong. However it happens for you is perfect.
What is a Spiritual Journey?
Everyone on earth is on a spiritual journey. However, that journey looks very unique and different to each person. Some people go through their spiritual journey much quicker than others. It all depends on what your soul wanted to experience before you came to earth. It also depends on where you are in your own evolution.
A spiritual journey is essentially remembering who you are on a soul level. It is tearing away the 3D things that you’ve been taught and looking deeper into the world and yourself. It is seeing things through a new perspective, a more evolved perspective.
A spiritual journey can be very enlightening but also very difficult. It asks you to let go of what you once knew and jump into a new way of thinking and being. This can be hard and uncomfortable. It can also be one of the best things that you do for yourself.
A spiritual journey asks you to go higher and expand your consciousness into ways that you never knew before. You will be diving deep into life and tearing away layers of your ego while coming to a deeper understanding of the human and soul journey.
Spiritual Journey Stages
Spiritual Journey Stage #1: Catalyst
The first spiritual journey stage you will experience is a catalyst that drives you to want to seek more spiritual knowledge. This catalyst is something that makes you question life and isn’t often enjoyable.
Since earth is so dense, most of our seeking and expansion comes from difficult times, not beautiful times. While this is slowly changing as the earth moves from 3D energy to 5D energy, we are still doing most of our growth through hard times.
A catalyst is something that is a shock to your system that springs you forward into a new way of thinking. It basically catapults you forward. It is usually an outside event that causes you to go inwards and seek new knowledge. It can be anything from:
- A Breakup or Divorce
- Losing a Loved One
- Losing a Job
- A Health Crisis
- Losing Your Home
- A Pandemic
- A Major Accident
- A Near Death Experience
A catalyst basically wakes you up from your slumber in a shocking way. It gets your attention in a big way so that you pay attention and then move on to the next step. It is usually something that happens unexpectedly, but not always.
It can feel like rock bottom and like there is nowhere for you to go. You don’t know what to do about it, or at least your 3D mind doesn’t have a solution for it right now. This happens for a reason; it wants you to go inwards. It wants you to search for a new way and find a new perspective.
Spiritual Journey Stage #2: Seeking
After the catalyst wakes you up and springs you into action, you begin to do a lot of soul-searching. This may look like spending hours upon hours reading, listening, and seeking higher knowledge.
You are trying to understand what just happened to you and your current level of awareness isn’t providing you with answers. So, you turn elsewhere to more spiritual knowledge to receive your answers.
This new knowledge opens a door into a whole new world that you never knew existed and you can never go back. Once you start acquiring this new knowledge, your whole outlook on life is forever changed.
Spiritual Journey Stage #3: Awakening & Outer Reality Shifts
Now a new reality is upon you, and you begin to integrate this new way into your life. Things in your life start to shift as you are now seeing things through a new perspective. You may feel like a new person.
At this point, your friends may slowly change as old ones fade away and new ones come in. Some friends will stay with you depending on how they are progressing on their journey.
You may feel drawn to do more heart-centered work and leave your old job behind as now you are awakened to a new way of doing things. You see many new possibilities at this stage of your spiritual journey. You are continuing to seek knowledge as all these outer shifts begin to take place in your life.
Spiritual Journey Stage #4: Integration
This spiritual journey stage can be really exciting. This is where you have learned about spiritual concepts and universal laws such as the law of attraction. You are ready to begin integrating these new techniques into your life.
This can be a really powerful time as you take a new approach to navigate your life. You now have new tools to try instead of just what you were taught when you were young. You get to try things that you may have never even heard of before and this can be very exciting and will shift your life in big ways.
Spiritual Journey Stage #5: Dark Night of the Soul
Dark night of the soul can happen at any time, and it often happens when you least expect it. You may be loving life and working with the law of attraction and so excited when all of a sudden BOOM, a dark night of the soul is upon you.
Dark night of the soul is essentially the death of part of your ego. Your ego is developed when you come to earth and now your spirit is asking you to let go of some of it.
When you are a child, you don’t have an ego but as you get older, your ego shapes and forms. It’s not wrong or bad to have an ego, however, it separates you from unconditional love and your purest form.
Your ego is almost like a wall that grows around you as you grow, and it does protect you. That is why it is there. This is ok, however, at some point your soul wants you to start to let go of this.
Your higher self picks when you’ll have your dark night of the soul. You may have many different ones and they will all last for a different amount of time.
Some of mine have been so intense that they’ve lasted a week and I’ve heard others say they’ve gone through theirs for years. Of course, it depends on what you label as dark night of the soul as well.
Essentially it is a really interesting time when part of your ego starts to dissolve. It can be very painful because it is asking you to let go of something that is a part of you. Just as if you have surgery, it would be painful. This is spiritual surgery and can be even more painful than physical surgery.
Spiritual Journey Stage #6: Rebirth
After a dark night of the soul comes a rebirth. After every death is a new beginning. Dark night of the soul is essentially death of your ego.
During this stage, you can expect to feel like a new person. Now, this isn’t always comfortable. Think about a new baby being born. They aren’t always comfortable and cry a lot. It’s an adjustment.
You are much more connected to your own intuition during this stage and the knowledge you seek now will be different than before your dark night of the soul. This period can be a seeking and finding period where you learn new ways of being and see things through new eyes.
This might be uncomfortable because you will be confronted with trusting your intuition over what you were taught. You were taught many things when you were young and now your soul is questioning what is real and what isn’t. You are going to be facing what feels right to you vs what you were taught, and it can be a battle within your mind.
Spiritual Journey Stage #7: Integration
The spiritual journey stage of integration comes after your rebirth after you’ve acquired new knowledge. You now begin to integrate this knowledge and bring it into your everyday life.
This may look like starting new spiritual practices or doing things differently than how you used to. For example, you might focus more on manifesting now that you understand how energy works.
You are basically putting all this new information to use in a practical way in your life. You are using it to make your life better which is exactly what you are supposed to be doing with it.
Spiritual Journey Stage #8: Service
The last spiritual journey stage is service to others. After you’ve gone through your whole journey (although the journey never ends) you know have much to give to others.
This doesn’t mean that you have to quit your job and become a spiritual teacher. It can be simple ways that you bring service to others. It may show up with your friends and family. You may not even realize how much you are helping them, but you will be. You have a whole new perspective on life and your light will shine out onto everyone you meet.
Of course, it can look like something big like switching careers or starting a charity venture. There are countless ways that you may choose to bring this service to the masses. It may even look like posting things on your social media which can help to spark something in someone else. You have many new opportunities to you at this stage in your spiritual journey.

Tips for Your Spiritual Journey Stages
• Things Aren’t Always Linear
Some of the stages may overlap with each other or happen out of order. These are just generally how they happen, but everyone is unique. You may also find that you pass one stage only to revisit it at a later time.
• Be Easy with Yourself
Some of these spiritual journey stages are fragile and it’s really important to be easy with yourself. Allow yourself to feel things without judgment and for what is happening to be ok. Take extra time for self-care rituals during this time.
• Have Patience with Yourself
Some of these spiritual journey stages are life-changing so it’s important to have patience with yourself. Things may not go as fast as you want while other times, they may be going too fast. Trust in the speed of the process as your soul knows what is best for you.
• Have Patience with Others Who Aren’t in the Same Place
Everyone’s spiritual journey is different and the people around you may not evolve at the same speed as you. They may not understand what you are going through.
It’s important to find like-minded people who are in the same place either online or in community groups.
• Trust Your Intuition
Your intuition is going to be your best friend on your spiritual journey. If something feels off, trust it. If something feels right, trust it! What other people think and what you were taught may not be true for you anymore.
Sometimes you have to unlearn certain things in order to learn something new that will be much more beneficial for you. Your intuition feels truth. This is part of the spiritual journey.
• Your Relationships Will Shift
As you evolve so will your relationships. This can be challenging, and you might want to slow down your spiritual evolution to be at the same level as others. I’ve been there many times before and it’s very difficult.
If some of your relationships do leave, then new ones will come in. This is part of your evolution and the journey of life. Some people will keep evolving with you and you will always be together as well.
If some of your relationships do leave or change, it doesn’t mean that it will be this way forever. You may reconnect in the future when you’re both back in the same vibration.
• Spend Time with Supportive People
It’s important to spend time with supportive people on your spiritual journey. Not everyone “gets it.” There are many people who think this whole spiritual thing is crazy. Those people won’t help you; they will keep you stuck where you are.
Find people who are supportive and at least open to this. They don’t have to be at the exact same level as you, just that they are open to it.
Final Thoughts – Spiritual Journey Stages
These spiritual journey stages are here to help you evolve your soul and expand your consciousness to a new level. Some stages may be super uncomfortable but necessary to get you to where you need to be. Other stages will be exhilarating, and you’ll be so excited about life and this new level you’ve uncovered.
Remember everyone is unique so the order may be slightly different for you, and you may revisit some areas after you integrate certain aspects.
