Root Chakra Blockages – How To Heal Them
Root chakra blockages can be very uncomfortable. If your root chakra is blocked you will experience both physical and emotional symptoms that will let you know that this chakra needs to be balanced.
The root chakra is the color red and is located at the base of your spine. It has to do with your physical needs such as food, shelter, and financial security. It also has to do with your connectedness to mother earth.
This chakra is fiery, vital, full of energy, and contains the will to survive. So, you can imagine if you have a root chakra blockage you won’t be operating with a full tank and everything will seem more difficult.
All of your energy systems work together therefore, if one becomes blocked and unbalanced it can contribute to the rest of your chakras being out of balance.
If you have root chakra blockages, then the chakra right beside it (the sacral chakra) has to step up and take on some of the workload. The other chakras will have to step up to make up for the two chakras that are now imbalanced as the whole energy system will be thrown off.
It is important to make sure all of your chakras are balanced because they all work together in perfect harmony.

How to Bring the Root Chakra into Balance
There are a few ways you can bring your root chakra into balance:
#1 Way to Heal Root Chakra Blockages – Bring More Red into Your Life
By bringing more red into your life you will help to balance and open the root chakra. You will naturally gravitate towards red, as you are often attracted to the colors that you need to bring into your experience.
Put more red in your house and wear red. Even looking at something red for a few minutes a day will start to remove the root chakra blockage as this is the color your body is craving.
#2 Way to Heal Root Chakra Blockages – Eat Red Foods
By eating red foods, you can help to bring this chakra into balance. So, enjoy a ripe tomato, some raspberries, or an apple.
Also by eating food with roots, it will help to connect you to the earth and balance this chakra, hence it is the “root” chakra. Some vegetables with roots include carrots, radishes, and onions.
#3 Way to Heal Root Chakra Blockages – Do Something Physical & Exciting
The root chakra has to do with your physical needs which include your physical body. You won’t want to move your body or do fun and exciting things when this chakra is blocked.
Playing sports or doing something physical will help to open it. Moving your body will get the stagnant root chakra energy stirred up and spinning again.
If life feels dull your root chakra is more than likely blocked. By doing something exciting, it will open it up – bungee jumping will for sure open it up! Basically, anything that elevates your adrenaline will open it up.
This chakra needs stimulation every so often. Going to a scary movie will help to get rid of your root chakra blockages as well.
#4 Way to Heal Root Chakra Blockages – Ground Yourself
Besides eating ‘rooted’ foods you can also ground yourself to the earth, which will help to unblock this chakra.
A good way to do this is by walking barefoot outside on the grass or dirt. Or you can imagine roots growing from your feet connecting you to the center of the earth. Do a quick 3-minute meditation imagining these roots and it will ground you.
#5 Way to Heal Root Chakra Blockages – Clear and Balance Your Root Chakra
You don’t have to be in a meditative state to balance your chakras. You can get rid of your root chakra blockages when driving to work or when you are in the shower in the morning or pretty much any time you think of it.
To help clear any root chakra blockages, imagine a bright, clear red vortex spinning at the base of your spine, both in the front and back of your body.
When you think of this chakra, notice if there is any muddiness, holes, or anything else out of the ordinary. Continue to focus on this vibrant bright red spinning vortex until it feels balanced, whole, and clear.
You Have the Ability to Clear Your Root Chakra Yourself
You are perfectly capable of clearing your root chakra blockages yourself. You can always go to an energy healer to clear them for you but you are capable of bringing your chakras back into balance. Since everything is energy, just visualizing a clear and balanced root chakra will clear it up and any physical and emotional issues that go with it.
Conclusion – How to Heal Your Root Chakra
Root chakra blockages can be uncomfortable which is why it is important to clear them up as soon as you notice them. Anytime your body is sore or out of whack, it is alerting you that your energy could use a good clearing.
By doing the things above you can clear any root chakra blockages and keep the other chakras around it balanced as well.

Hi,
I’m not that familiar w/ chackra, but do you think massage therapy can heal.
My back is in so much pain. My chiropractor said it’s DDD. Degenerative disc disease. It’s wear & tear on the body,is my belief. Life on life’s terms..any suggestions are helpful….thank you.
Anne
Hi Anne, yes I do think massage is great for helping with the root chakra. It will help to open the meridians and allow to energy to start flowing again . Other great things are acupuncture, physiotherapy, osteopath, reiki or chiropractor. Any of them will be of benefit.
For things you can do yourself, I suggest grounding yourself everyday. Basically imagining roots growing from your spine and connecting your to the earth. Also, it sounds like stuck energy. So, imagine that flowing red energy going through that chakra. The root chakra is all about support. Is there any areas where you don’t feel supported? If so, is their a way you can give that support to yourself in those areas. Yoga is also great for helping with pain and opening your chakras.
I hope that helps and you get some relief from your back pain.
My root chakra has been closed for 3 years. Literally I’ve known for 3 years. It’s always around 50% underactive. I moved to North Carolina from Maine 3 years ago my mom tricked me into moving here I thought I was only coming for summer vacation and she didn’t tell me till three days before school started that I was staying here permanently. it really messed me up and even though I’m over it now 3 years later I have never felt at home here and I have had severe homesickness and depression because I miss Maine so much. I used to look up Google images of my hometown in Maine and cry and feel so lost and upset. I would hold on to all of my belongings that I got from main and couldn’t let them go. even though it’s gotten better this past year and I’ve accepted it a lot more my root chakra is still very low and I struggle with all of the negative side effects of that. no matter how much I try to strengthen my root chakra or how much I try to feel at home here I just don’t I can’t shake this unsettling feeling that I don’t belong here. I feel like my root chakra won’t get better until I can find a way to feel at home. Like wearing red and doing the hums aren’t enough. But this isn’t my home and when I’m trying to strengthen my root chakra it feels like I’m lying to myself. I’ve always been very connected to nature and love mother Earth but what I see outside my window right now isn’t what I resonate with. Not that North Carolina isn’t beautiful it is but this feels like an extended exotic vacation not like my home which I miss desperately. Any advice?
I’m sorry to hear that where you are living now isn’t resonating with you. It’s not a great feeling to feel like you aren’t where you are supposed to be. It seems as though you heart is elsewhere and yes that can make it difficult to feel grounded and connected to where you are. Can I ask, are you able to move back to Maine? I’m not sure of your age or circumstances but is there some way for you to make it back there? If your intuition is pulling you a certain way, I’d explore those options. All the little tips and tricks are great for helping with your chakras, but sometimes it can take a big move in order to heal the things that are out of alignment. Have you spoke to your mom about how you feel?
I did not have any idea what chakra was until a few days ago. A massage therapist told me my red chakra was open. She told me to google it. It seems that it’s not always a good thing to be open especially when I am an extremely depressed and anxiety ridden person that feels constant physical and emotional pain. Sure sounds like I have an hyper active root chakra. I will try some of your techniques in this article to help balance me out.
Hi Nik,
Yes you don’t want your chakras too open or too closed. A balanced root chakra is best. If you are feeling down then an open root chakra (or any chakras for that matter) might make you more susceptible to taking on other people ‘stuff’ more. I used to do this exercise where I basically expanded my aura and it felt great and it seemed to get things going moving positively forward in my life. Then I started a job at this oil field company with tons of negative energy and expanded my aura that morning. I felt so panicked and not like myself at all. I didn’t realize it until later that it was because I was open to other peoples energy. It might be similar in your case where some emotions you are feeling aren’t your own. It is especially helpful to ground yourself and that will center you and keep you from absorbing that which isn’t yours.
