4 Simple Steps to Choosing Your First Oracle Card Deck
Are you looking to choose your first oracle card deck? Oracle cards are a great way to connect to your higher self, angels, guides, ascended masters, and your own intuition. They provide insights into things that you may not be aware of. They also help you to navigate through your life by providing messages and guidance.
However, it can be overwhelming when first starting out trying to figure out which oracle card deck to choose. There are tons of options to select from and you want to make sure you pick the right one. This is because you want your first oracle card deck to be clear and easy to understand.

How to Choose Your First Oracle Card Deck
1. Start with Oracle Cards or Angel Cards (Vs. Tarot Cards)
Oracle cards and angel cards are different than tarot cards. Oracle cards and angel cards can have any number of cards in a deck and contain any sort of messages that the creator puts on them. They are a more fluid system and haven’t been around as long as tarot has.
Tarot cards have been around for a long time and are how reading cards traditionally started. They are a more fixed system with a set number of cards (78). Each tarot deck has the same wording on them (i.e., 7 of cups.)
Tarot can be overwhelming to learn for beginners and take years to get it right. However, with angel and oracle cards, the messages are easier to interpret and understand.
As a beginner, you don’t want to be overwhelmed in interpreting the meaning of what everything represents. This can take away from your reading.
For example, trying to understand “have faith in your dreams” in an oracle card deck is much clearer than trying to understand “5 of swords” in a tarot deck.
2. What Do You Need in Your Life Right Now?
When looking for your first oracle card deck, think about what you currently want to know about and choose a deck related to that.
For example, if you are curious about love and relationships, choose a deck like the Romance Angel Cards.
Or if you are looking to understand your chakras and are drawn to working with them, a deck such as the Chakra Wisdom Oracle Cards will be better suited for you.
Go with what you are currently interested in. As you evolve with your oracle cards, your collection will grow and evolve with you.

3. Which Deck Are You Drawn To?
When you first see a collection of oracle cards, which one catches your eye right away? This is likely going to be the best one for you. It is your intuition saying, “this one is for you”. Even if your mind is second-guessing it, if you are drawn to it, then it’s a good one for you to start with.
You will be drawn to different decks during different phases of your life. You may love using one of your oracle card decks for a few months and then move onto another deck for a while and have no interest in the first deck. Eventually, you may find yourself going back to your first deck. It all depends on where your energy currently is.
This is why it’s important to pick an oracle card deck that you are drawn to right now as this is where your energy currently is. The messages will be much clearer than on cards you aren’t drawn to.
Also, be sure to take a look at not only the words but the imagery on the cards. Which one is pulling you in? Which one excites you when you look at it? Which one is speaking to your soul? Choose that one.
4. Which Oracle Card Deck Messages Make the Most Sense?
As a beginner, you want to pick a deck where the words make sense to you. If you are constantly looking up words and going to the guidebook, it will take away from what your intuition is telling you. Look at the words on the cards that are simple to understand. Also, choose words that relate to the language you use. This helps the messages to be clear.
For example, there’s one oracle card deck with the message “Anna Grandmother of Jesus” on a card. While this is a beautiful deck and a nice message, what does it mean? If you are a beginner, it may be hard to interpret it.
However, choosing a deck with the card “New Exercise Program” is much easier to interpret as a beginner.
It depends on your personality as well. It may be difficult for someone to interpret a message, however, it may be easy for you. Something easy for someone else may not make sense to you. That is why it’s important to go with your own intuition when picking out your first oracle card deck.
Have Fun Choosing Your First Oracle Card Deck
Choosing your first oracle card deck is a fun and exciting experience! You don’t want to be overwhelmed by confusing images and words when first starting out. Start out simple and as you grow, try out new oracle card decks to get new types of messages.
You can also mix and match cards and use a couple of different decks for one reading. This will bring in new messages to your reading.
The most important part of picking your first oracle card deck is choosing one that you are drawn to and that feels good to you. If you don’t feel good when looking at it, then move on to one that feels good to you.
