Reasons Why You May Cry During Meditation
1. Feeling Love
The feeling of love can cause you to release emotions. How you release them is unique to you. Some people laugh, some people smile and feel joy, and others cry.
We don’t always feel true unconditional love here on earth and when you tap into that emotion, your body will react. Crying comes from your heart. Your heart may be so overwhelmed with love that you cry not with sadness but with love.
I used to cry during my mediations as a beginner and also when I channeled high vibrational energy. The first week of channeling I felt so much love from my spirit guides that I bawled my eyes out every time.
Know that it will get better, and you won’t cry during every meditation you do. You are tapping into a new feeling and your body is reacting to it. It is completely normal.
2. Releasing Emotions
When you meditate you release stuck emotions in your body. They are moving around your body to be released. Crying is a way of releasing this emotion.
You might be releasing years of not loving yourself, not forgiving yourself or someone else, or any type of stored trauma in your body.
The best thing to do when you want to cry is to allow it to happen. If you try to hold it back, it won’t be released, and it will keep coming up until you do.
So, even if it feels uncomfortable, know that in the long term, it is helping you to let go of old emotions even if it temporarily feels bad.
3. Breaking Through Limiting Beliefs
When you meditate, all your ‘stuff’ comes to the surface to be seen. You may have limiting beliefs that you aren’t even aware of.
When you see these beliefs, it can be uncomfortable and feel bad. So, you may cry when you are uncovering and breaking through limiting beliefs.
This again is a really good sign. Once you break through your limiting beliefs, then you change your life, how you act, and what you experience.
If you notice that you are becoming more aware of what is holding you back, allow it to come through and be seen. This is the first step to releasing it. Allow this to happen and for yourself to feel sad and cry as you go through this process.
Have No Expectations During Your Meditation
If you can, try to go into your meditation with no expectations of what will happen. This will allow whatever is supposed to happen to happen. Each meditation you do will be different and will feel different.
If you feel like you want to cry, laugh or even scream during your meditation, allow yourself to do it without judgment.
Final Thoughts – Is It Normal to Cry During Meditation?
Crying is very normal during meditation and is more common than you may know. When you cry, you are releasing something from yourself. This is something that wants to be expressed and come out of you. So, go with it and allow it to happen.
You may also cry if you are tapping into high vibrational energy. Whether this energy is from a being such as your higher self, angels, or spirit guides. It doesn’t matter where it’s coming from.
You may not be used to feeling such powerful, loving emotions. They touch your heart so much that you bawl your eyes out. This is normal and will lessen over time.
If you are just getting into a meditative practice and not sure if you should continue because of all your tears, understand that it is normal. You can always do less if it’s too overwhelming, but I recommend that you still stay somewhat consistent.
Or if you’ve been meditating for a while and are now beginning to cry during your meditations, it’s because you are tapping into something new and releasing more emotions and limiting beliefs that want to come out of you. This is really good, as you are now ready to step into another level of understanding within yourself. So, allow yourself to cry and let the energy move through you as this is what it wants to do.
