Intuition – Why You Should Always Listen To It
Have you ever noticed that feeling in the pit of your stomach that told you something wasn’t right? Maybe you hear a voice in your head that says “no, don’t do it” in certain situations. That is your intuition talking to you.
Or if you’ve ever felt that something couldn’t be more right and you can’t explain why. That is also your intuition.
What is Intuition?
Intuition is that feeling you get inside you when you know that something is right or wrong. Different people feel it in different parts of their bodies. I feel mine in the pit of my stomach. It feels like twisted-up knots when I know that something isn’t right.
Intuition Often Doesn’t Make Sense
Intuition doesn’t always make sense, but it is guiding you to make the best choices for yourself. In fact, usually, it doesn’t make any sense and in hindsight, you can see as to why your intuition tried guiding you a certain way.
It is a good idea to start paying attention to your feelings instead of doing what’s rational in your head. It’s so easy to listen to your head and what makes sense, but it is about feeling your life more instead of thinking it so much.
I have not always listened to my intuition and in hindsight seen why I should have. It didn’t always make sense in my head, so I ignored it and pushed it aside.

My Story – Why I Should Have Listened to My Intuition
A couple of years ago I was moving from Medicine Hat to Sylvan Lake. I looked at places the previous week and found what seemed like an OK place to live. It wasn’t the nicest place I’ve ever lived in, but it was close to my new job. I needed something asap, so it made sense in my head to move in.
The following week I was ready to move. I made the 4.5-hour drive to my new place with a packed vehicle. I was just about to sign the lease papers when a very clear voice in my head said, “don’t do it!!!”
This strong uncomfortable urge came over me and I could feel it in the pit of my stomach. I knew I shouldn’t sign the papers, but I rationalized it in my head and made myself believe it was the right thing to do even though my intuition was screaming at me to stop.
How could I back out now when I drove all the way there, my vehicle was packed with all my things and I started work in 2 days. I didn’t listen to my intuition because I didn’t want to look for a new place with such short notice.
So, I went against my intuition and ignored the feeling in my stomach and the voice in my head, and signed the documents. I instantly felt regret but tried to make myself believe it was the right decision.
It Didn’t Take Me Long to See Why I Should Have Listened to My Intuition
It was one of the worst decisions I have ever made. The first night in my new place was a terrible night!
As a person who likes peace and quiet and who needs a good night’s sleep, this was not the place for me. People were partying all hours of the night and I barely got any sleep. I was up in the middle of the night trying to figure out how to get out of my lease.
There was no way I was getting any sleep with all the partying going on. At 3:00 am I was googling how to get out of a lease and emailing other apartments to see if I could look at them. I finally got to sleep by 5:00 am that morning.
The rest of my nights in this place were filled with my neighbors partying, littering, peeing in the elevator, and keeping me up all night! They even had to put a sign up to let people know there were no cameras in the elevator, so no more peeing was allowed! It was a disgusting, horrible place to live!
Why I Had to Call 911 At My New Place
Another night a drunk girl tried to break into my place. She was banging on my door saying she was going to hurt me. This terrified me! I didn’t know who this girl was. She was so drunk she thought I stole something of hers. I thought about jumping off my balcony as I was shaking so bad and didn’t know what I’d do if she got in. I didn’t jump but I did call 911 after the drunk girl kicked in my door.
Later that week my landlord told me that she kicked my door so hard she ended up with pins in her leg. It was a terrifying night and I was afraid she was going to get in and hurt me. Every night after that I’d get up in the middle of the night and look out my peephole to make sure no one was outside my door that was going to try to get in. I regretted it from day 1 as it was the absolute worst place I’ve ever lived in.
If I would have listened to my intuition instead of my head, I wouldn’t have signed the lease papers. It may have taken me extra time to look for a place, but it would have saved me 3 months of misery, being scared every night, and extra charges for breaking my 6-month lease.
Your Intuition is Always Guiding You
Your intuition is always communicating with you. Try to follow its guidance more and pay attention to the outcome when you do.
Notice the times you don’t listen to it and how things don’t go as smoothly as you hope. Even if it doesn’t make sense, do what your intuition tells you. It knows more than your rational mind can see at the moment.
I now make a point to always do what my intuition says even if it seems insignificant at the time. I’ve walked out in the middle of dates because my intuition screams at me that this situation isn’t right. It often doesn’t make sense to me, but I don’t want to look back and wish I had listened. I sometimes still question my decisions because my rational thinking tells me it doesn’t make sense, but I know it’s the right decision if my intuition is guiding me.
Intuition – Why You Should Always Listen to It
Everyone is born with intuition. If you think this doesn’t apply to you or that you don’t have good intuition, you do. It’s a matter of listening to it more. It’s that feeling in your body that says this situation isn’t right. It’s normal to question a decision that doesn’t make sense to your rational mind but not everything in life makes sense.
