This Is How I Stopped Binge Eating
I binge ate for as long as I can remember. It was at least 20 years of doing it. It started when I became depressed at 16 years old and ever since then, I used it as a way to self-soothe myself when I was stressed.
This unhealthy coping mechanism led to me becoming overweight and finding it nearly impossible to stop the vicious cycle that I was in.
So, how did I FINALLY stop binge eating, lose 36 pounds and keep it off once and for all? That is what I’m going to tell you in this article and it likely isn’t what you expect.
How I Stopped Binge Eating
1. I Made a Decision
The very first thing I did to stop my binge eating cycle was to decide once and for all to do it. This decision came to me while watching one of my YouTube videos. I noticed that I had a bit of a double chin and quite honestly, I was terrified of people telling me I was fat. I had been there and done that in the past with high school acquaintances pointing it out to me and I didn’t want to go through it again.
At the time I very much sought external validation because I had low self-worth. However, in this case, it worked for me because I used it as a way to get very clear on my decision.
Once I made the decision, there was no turning back. Things kept unfolding in a way that led me to get over this addictive behavior.
2. I Followed My Intuition
The next thing I did to stop binge eating is something that I now do all the time which is to follow my intuition. I listened to the subtle ideas that were coming to me. I didn’t force anything, just went with the flow and my internal guidance.
By following my intuition, I was led to things that helped me lose weight.
One of them was quitting my job and pursuing my dream career. Once I quit the job that I absolutely hated, I had a new lighter energy to me.
I wasn’t using food to de-stress anymore because I didn’t feel as stressed. Everything in my life got better after trusting my intuition to quit my job.
The crazy part is, that you’d think I would be more stressed because I wasn’t making money yet with my dream career and had no idea how I would. But my intuition supported me the whole way through.
The other thing my intuition led me to do was to fast for parts of the day. At this time (and still to this day) I don’t know anything about fasting and its benefits. However, I did it because it felt right for me. It worked so amazingly that I was even able to go off of my heartburn medication after 15 years of being on it (which is something I wanted to manifest for a long time before this).

3. I Found Alternative Ways to Feel Good
As I mentioned above, by changing my career I didn’t feel the need to overeat due to stress. I felt better so I didn’t need my old coping mechanism of overeating and binge eating.
At the time I was at that job, I also felt really worthless. I hated myself because I had to be stuck there when I knew there was something so much better for me out there. So, I ate as a way to punish myself for not being able to change my life. I had terrible self-worth at that time.
When you feel like you are lacking in sweetness in your life, you seek out alternative ways to fill that hole. Many people eat as a way to add sweetness to their life. But, if you are trying to stop binge eating, then you have to find another healthier way to add sweetness to your life.
For me, I replaced binge eating with other things that felt good and raised my serotonin. These things included, meditation, working out (temporarily), being outside, being creative (in my work), changing my home environment, changing my work environment, and doing more self-care.
I no longer felt that something was missing because I was following my heart and its guidance. Only you know what that is for you. Everyone is different, so the things I did may be different than the things that your heart is calling you to do. Tune into your soul and ask it what fulfills you and then take the first step to do that.
4. I Raised My Vibration
I raised my vibration at that time quite a bit and it became much easier to not binge eat. This is because I wasn’t craving the same things as before. This happened very naturally as a result of raising my vibe.
Things I used to do just faded out of my life. For example, I quit drinking alcohol without even trying. One day I just realized that I hadn’t drank in a really long time (which was another coping mechanism of mine.) I drank for over 20 years. So, to have alcohol completely fade out of my life was a huge thing.
I also became a vegetarian simply because my intuition led me to it. I no longer craved the processed food that I ate every day. It simply faded out of my life when I raised my vibration.
In fact, I tried processed food at one point down the road and it made me sick. It hurt my stomach so much that I knew my new energy could no longer handle it.
Final Thoughts – How I Stopped Binge Eating
Binge eating in my opinion is a way to cope with stress as well as internal and external conflicts in your life. If you can find a way to deal with the stressors in a healthier way and even eliminate some of them, it makes it much easier to stop binge eating.
How you do that is unique to you. However, I’ve found that it starts by following your intuition and the calling of your heart.
My intuition led me to do things that stopped me from binge eating and it all started with a clear decision that I was doing it. I had enough and no longer wanted to be the version of myself who overate every single day. I made a decision and never went back.
Now, if thoughts to binge eat get into my head, I simply remind myself that is no longer me and the thoughts go away.
In summary, get clear, make a decision and then trust in the guidance of your soul.
