Heart chakra blockages can have a huge impact on how you express love as well as how you give and receive love.
Your heart chakra is your fourth chakra located right by your heart.
This is an important chakra for helping you with all kinds of love; whether it is self-love or love for another.
It is green in color. Some people like to think of it as pink as well because that is a color of love.
Green is the color of healing and this chakra is responsible for healing. Especially healing of emotions since emotions come from the heart. A lot of emotions can be stored in this chakra.
What Are Chakras?
Our chakras are our energy centers. They are vortexes of spinning energy that create who we are and what we do. Some individuals can even see the chakra centers in others. With practice, this information is available to anyone.
All your energy systems work together. Therefore, if one becomes blocked and unbalanced it can contribute to the rest of your chakras being out of balance.
If you have heart chakra blockages, then the chakras right beside it (the solar plexus chakra & throat chakra) will have to step up and take on some of the workload. The other chakras will have to step up to make up for the chakra that is unbalanced as the whole energy system will be thrown off.
It is important to make sure all of your chakras are balanced because they all work together in perfect harmony.

What Does an Open & Balanced Heart Chakra Look Like?
When the heart chakra is open and balanced you are able to give love freely and receive it freely. You are empathetic towards others and do not judge them. You feel worthy of all the good things that come into your life. You are able to heal quickly and you love yourself.
How Does Your Heart Chakra Become Imbalanced?
Your heart chakra can become imbalanced from past emotional trauma. The stuff you hold onto from the past can cause your heart chakra to close up as a way of protecting itself.
Also, feelings of unworthiness (which stem from past experiences in this life and other lives) can cause this chakra to become blocked.
If you are constantly trying to prove yourself to others and yourself this can throw the heart chakra out of balance.
How to Heal and Bring Your Heart Chakra Back into Balance
1. Know Your Worth
By knowing that you are valuable and worthy, it will keep this chakra balanced. The heart chakra is all about love and that includes self-love. Everyone was created just as worthy as everyone else, so if you devalue your worth, this can cause some stagnant energy in the heart center.
2. Bring More Green into Your Life
Green is the color of the heart chakra and it will also help to balance it. By wearing green, looking at green, or eating green foods will help to balance this chakra.
Walking outside on the green grass is great for balancing the heart chakra (as well as the root chakra).
If you catch yourself wearing more green or being drawn to green, then it is a good indication that you need more green in your life. Sometimes I even paint my toenails green if I feel I need a little extra heart chakra healing.
3. Release Guilt
If you are holding onto guilt, it will block this chakra. By releasing guilt, you will allow the energy to flow through the heart chakra and heal it.
The way you can do this is by first looking at the guilt ask asking “is this valid? Am I holding onto guilt that I shouldn’t be?” If not, then release it.
If you do feel like you should feel guilty then own it and release it. What I mean, is to acknowledge that you made a mistake, understand you are only human, and then forgive yourself and/or ask the other person (if there is one) if they can forgive you.
The most important thing is to forgive yourself. So, even if they don’t, then forgive yourself for holding onto the guilt for so long. Feel it move through you and release it out into the universe to be healed.
4. Do Things to Honor Yourself
Since love is what this chakra is all about, do things to honor yourself and take care of YOU. Just as you’d honor someone else if they did something good, make sure you are doing that for yourself as well.
Even something little such as taking a relaxing bubble bath or buying a new shirt can help to strengthen the heart chakra. Be good to you!

5. Work Through Past Emotional Traumas
A lot of heart chakra issues stem from past life trauma or current life trauma. Traumas and rejection can cause you to shield your heart from more pain. By putting this wall up, it doesn’t allow the energy to move freely in this chakra.
There are many ways to work through traumas. How you do it is up to you. There are things such as:
- Shadow Work
- Hypnotherapy
- Meditations for Your Heart
- EFT (Emotional Freedom Technique)
- Crying
- Exercise
- Forgiving Yourself & Others
- Talking to a Counsellor
6. Tell Yourself & Others You Love Them Unconditionally
Tell yourself that you love yourself in order to heal the heart chakra. You can do this with other people as well and you don’t have to say it out loud. Just saying it internally is enough to keep this chakra open and flowing.
7. Go to a Spiritual Healer
Sometimes when the wound is very deep a spiritual healer can be of benefit to help you release and heal.
You are capable of doing it on your own, however, I’ve found sometimes it can fast forward the healing by going to someone else. Also, when there are two people working on something the energy is always stronger and that boost can be helpful.
8. Do a Random Act of Kindness or Help Out Someone Else
By helping someone else, you will open up your heart chakra. The energy of giving to another is strong and can help to heal your heart chakra.
However, the giving must come because you want to, not because you feel obligated to. If you do it out of obligation or guilt, it won’t have the same energy attached and will not help to balance your heart chakra. In fact, it may make it worse especially if you are feeling resentful at all about it.
Bottom Line: Heart Chakra Blockages
As you can see, heart chakra blockages can play with your self-esteem and self-worth. Many of these blockages stem from past experiences that caused you to feel unworthy.
The best way to heal your heart chakra is to break through the old beliefs that cause you to feel guilty or unworthy. It starts by doing things for yourself that help you to feel worthy and more confident.
