Dream Meaning Drowning: Important Messages From Your Dream
Did you just have a dream about drowning? This is a pretty common dream and is showing you something you need to be aware of. In this article, I go over exactly what the dream meaning drowning means and how to interpret it specifically for you.
Dream Meaning Drowning
Water represents your emotions, so if you are in water then you are submerged in your emotions.
If you are drowning, then you feel you have lost control of your emotions and no longer know what to do with them. You feel helpless in a way, and you are fighting for your life (figuratively.)
The general message of your dream meaning drowning is that you are overwhelmed by your emotions, and you don’t know how to navigate them. You feel suffocated by how you are feeling, and you don’t feel like you can handle it much longer.
Dream Meaning Drowning: How Did You React and Feel?
Pay attention to how you reacted in your dream. Were you trying to stay above water and fight your way through? If so, you are trying to do the same with your emotions in your waking life. You are looking for a solution and trying everything possible to make it through.
If you let the water, come over you without a fight then you have surrendered your emotions to a higher power. How does it feel to surrender? Does it feel peaceful to you? If so, you have finally let go of resisting them and are allowing whatever is going on in your life to be there. You are in the ultimate surrender process.
If you feel out of control, then you fear that your emotions and your life are out of control. You want to control them but as you let the water wash over you, you’ve surrendered your control.
Could you breathe underwater? If so, you will be able to navigate this challenge you are going through much easier now. You have relaxed and are going with the flow more. You are no longer fighting the inevitable and are navigating it in a way that you never even knew was possible before.
Dream Meaning Drowning: Was There Anyone Else There?
Was someone else in your dream or were you alone? If you were alone then you are trying to deal with your emotions by yourself. You aren’t sharing your pain with anyone else.
If someone else was there, who was it? What do they represent to you? Dreams are symbols and therefore, not always the exact person will show up that is directly related to the message.
For example, if your mother showed up, it could represent a mother figure or caregiver. Or it could represent aspects of you that are motherly.
Did you shout out for help? If so, you are reaching out for help. You don’t want to deal with this alone and you want someone to help you. It might be worth reaching out to a friend, loved one, or a counselor in your waking life. You are now ready to ask for help.
Were there a lot of people around yet no one was helping you? If so, you feel unseen by people. They can clearly see you need help, but no one is coming to rescue you. It may also represent that you need to rescue yourself instead of relying on other people to do it for you.
Having lots of people around can also represent that you are overwhelmed by all the people in your life, and you need time away. Your emotions are in overdrive, and they need to be dealt with by you and you alone.
Dream Meaning Drowning: What Was the Water Like?
The water you were drowning in can tell you a lot about what your dream means. Water symbolizes your subconscious mind and the emotions that are within you. Therefore, the color and quality of it tells you a lot about your own emotions.
If the water was beautiful and clear, then even though you are drowning in your emotions, you are handling them quite well. You feel clear even during this time. You know that you are going to be ok, and you can see the positivity even during this difficult time.
If the water was murky and dark, then you are letting your emotions consume you and pull you down into a dark place. You are seeing the negative in your situation, and it is bringing you down. You don’t know what to do and it feels like this darkness is taking over you.
It’s important to do something in your waking life to get out of this funk. Whether it’s talking to someone or making a big change in your life.

If you were drowning in a pool, it could represent your childhood. Maybe you are dealing with an emotion from the past that is finally ready to be looked at now.

It no longer feels good to you, and it is suffocating to you now. What was once fun and enjoyable is now a heavy burden and it’s time to let it go.
If you were in an ocean with sharks and unknown things in the water, then it is showing you that you are afraid of the unknown. You feel like something scary is hiding deep in your emotions and you don’t want to look at it. You don’t know what you’ll find when you look at it, so you let it take you away instead of looking at it.
If you were drowning in your bathtub, then you are overwhelmed about something that is happening in your own home. Since your bathtub is in your home, then your dream is asking you to look at it. What is going on at home that feels like it is too much to handle?

I was dreaming to write something at peaceful evening, red sky, black shadow of jungle, nothing was scary. Then I find out I’m late and I have to reach home ASAP then I fell into a lake with breathable clean water. It wasn’t scary at all. I was drowning, but I was at peace. And I came out that lake and I wasn’t wet. I was in hurry I forgot about eeverything the pen, copy, and stuff I had at that time. Then I ran away. I felt scared by dark night. The way was too long and road was too narrow to run at night. I closed my eyes so that I can run. And I started running and I reached in my bed, half naked but it was still so calm. I met stranger at strange place but I knew everyone of em and I knew about all places. I saw a girl there and I saw her before in other dream, but we hadn’t forgotten each other. I was. We talked about how we met in past dream. Then I saw some other men, complete strange but I knew them somewhere.
After a really long dream I felt my grandpa calling me and mother was waking me up. When I wake up I found no one around me I asked mum if she called me she said no.
Cool dream!! It sounds like there was a lot happening and a lot of messages in it for you 😊
